FULL CIRCLE

I began this blog for several reasons. As many of you know, when my daughter started school, I went back to college for a degree in journalism with the hope of writing a newspaper column. Several semesters later, the director of my daughter’s school asked me to temporarily step in and take over a classroom because she knew that I was a credentialed teacher. It was spring break, so the timing was good. Little did I know that instead of completing my journalism degree, I would be working as a teacher for the next 30 years.

My mother encouraged me to choose teaching as my career because I loved young children and would often end up instructing them while I was babysitting. She thought that being a teacher was a good career for a young woman who would most likely get married and have children. My father thought that based on the writing I produced, a career in journalism would be a good choice. Mom’s advice won out and the rest is history.

Now that I am approaching 70 years old, I find myself reflecting on my life and many of the decisions I have made. As Mark Twain once said, “We regret the things we don’t do more than the things we do.” Becoming a teacher was definitely a good decision; however, I have been wondering lately what would have happened if I had chosen journalism as my occupation. Publishing this blog gives me the opportunity to fulfill my goal, and allows me to share humorous and real life stories with women, during a time when we all need to smile and laugh more often.

I want to thank all of my friends and family members who have encouraged me to write again. I am sending a special shoutout to those of you who have inadvertently provided material for this blog – you are individuals living life with humor and authenticity. To my followers, thank you for supporting my lifetime goal by continuing to read my posts and sharing it with your friends.
