I love music. As I clearly explained in a previous post, I cannot sing, although this reality doesn’t always stop me. Music is a force which can comfort, evoke powerful emotions, and get senior citizens to rock out in their chairs.
We have attended several concerts recently. At the first one, the opening act for Rod Stewart was Cheap Trick, a rock band who I am sure blew out more than a few hearing aids worn by the 70 year olds in the audience. Somewhere in the fifteen minute break after they finished, the ringing in my ears finally stopped. Even as a young adult, I rarely went to rock concerts, preferring Cat Stevens and Peter, Paul, and Mary.
Several weeks later, we attended a Frankie Valli concert which we thoroughly enjoyed. The music was familiar and the volume was definitely well below the decibel level of a jet plane. This was clearly more in sync with our musical preferences.
In the future we will be seeing The Beach Boys and the Happy Together Tour (an amazing yearly concert which showcases “blasts from the past” including The Turtles and The Association).
So – no more rock bands for me – I am not forever young.
