I used to be a great sleeper – my head would hit the pillow and when I opened my eyes, it was morning. Even if I was awoken by the sound of snoring or the intermittent whining of an air conditioner, I had the ability to go back to sleep after a few minutes. Fast forward to now, when the only thing waking me up is my brain deciding that sleep is not necessary, and playing the “let’s see how many things we can worry about” game.
These are generally my 3 a.m. choices when I cannot sleep:
1. Do the Wordle puzzle which was released at 12 a.m.
2. Open the Kindle app and continue to read the book that I started the night before.
3. Reread the same chapter from the previous night since I can’t remember what I read. (Please note that one Kindle book can last for 6 months because I read the same chapter an average of 3 times.)
4. Log on to my iPad and check next week’s weather.
5. Search the Internet for a list of things to do at 3 a.m.
6. Check my email a few times – make that 5 times.
7. Decide on a blog topic and start writing.
And it is now 4 a.m.
