I am one of those people who still wears a mask in public places – it feels safer and the fact that my masks are really comfortable makes it easy. I never wore the N95 “super masks” during the height of the pandemic because the edges hit right under my eyes, which caused them to water constantly. The end look was a combo of dark undereye circles of eye makeup and a black mask – basically a human raccoon.
Being as we are no longer mandated to wear masks, I do get an occasional odd look from some people. I smile when this happens, but of course they cannot see my mouth, only the crinkly lines around my eyes, which will probably be the subject of a future post.
The good news is that we have discovered many outdoor places where it is safe to eat without the need for masks. Our dinner time has shifted to accommodate the soaring temperatures, and I have discovered that I actually like eating outdoors once the sun is setting.
In light of the fact that we do not eat indoors in restaurants, perhaps I should modify the famous phrase “when one door closes, another one opens” to “when one door closes, another door opens – to a patio.”
