ANTICIPATION

If a song title represents the current theme of my life, then the Carly Simon song, “Anticipation” would be an accurate choice. Anticipation is defined as the emotion we experience when expecting something to happen, good or bad.

The impact of powerful problems (Covid, politics, and worldwide financial instability, to name a few) has resulted in many people developing a stronger sense of anticipation. Some people are starting to resemble human groundhogs because they are always on high alert and looking around for any sign of danger.

Personally, I have taken the groundhog theory to a new level by formulating solutions for problems that have not yet materialized. I am not sure if this type of thinking has any real merit, but once and a while it is actually useful. Unfortunately, my way of thinking is in direct opposition to the current philosophy which places emphasis on mindfulness and living in the moment.

Now that I have explained why I often buy two of everything, maintain lists of what to take in the event of a fire or earthquake, and keep enough medicine in our home to support a Third World country, I am going to open a can of nuts and look out the window.
