It is the day after Halloween and like so many people, I am beginning to think about the upcoming holidays. Lists have been created and many hours will be spent finding the “right” gifts.
I used to love going to malls. It is hard to know whether the pandemic has caused my current “mall apathy” or whether it is simply due to decades of walking in and out of countless stores. As young adults, my friends and I spent many Saturdays going to local malls. Shopping was more like a sport – the goal was to walk for hours and spend very little money. Sometimes we would visit several malls in the same day, and on more than one occasion we came close to getting locked in because we ignored the PA system warning us that the mall was closing.
Some of you may remember the 1970 Yellow Pages slogan, “Let your fingers do the walking.” I still remember picking up those chunky yellow books from the porch or driveway and throwing them into the nearest closet.
This year I am going to let my fingers do the walking and shop online.
