As a young child, my daughter was able to spend a great deal of time with her grandmother because we lived in close proximity to each other. The bond between them was evident from the moment my daughter was born until my mother’s death.
There are many times when I see the common threads that wove them together. The ability to stay objective in emotional situations and to deliver information in a direct manner are among the qualities which stand out. Both of them demonstrated resilience and strength in times of adversity. The most remarkable of these shared traits was their uncanny ability to assess people’s character and authenticity with profound accuracy.
As the years go by, I can see the similarities between these two wonderful women with greater clarity. Perhaps it is because as I get older, I am more observant of those who are close to me. In any case, on the third anniversary of my mother’s death, it is comforting to know that she lives on through my child.
Her memory truly is a blessing.
