WHAT DAY IS IT?

Originally, the day after Thanksgiving was referred to as Black Friday – a day when practically everything in the world was on sale.

There are several different explanations as to why the name Black Friday came to be. One reason is that merchants often operated in the “red” prior to this day, but due to massive amounts of shopping, sales put them in the “black.” Another reason was that in the 1950s, the Philadelphia traffic police used the term Black Friday because their jobs were unusually stressful due to the chaotic traffic caused by shoppers. And yet another theory was that in the 1880s, two investors caused the stock market to crash on a Friday which created the name.

Personally, after purchasing four giant bags of gift bows for the price of one (bought on a Sunday), and buying a seventy dollar blouse for fifty-one cents (bought on a Monday), I think the name “Black Friday” should be changed due to its blatant inaccuracy.

Maybe every day from Thanksgiving until Christmas should be called Friday.
