Being as I rarely know the names of the teams who play in the Super Bowl each year, the title of this post may be surprising. If someone asks me which team I am supporting, I generally make a choice based on the uniform colors I like best. Most people watch this exciting event because they are fans of one of the teams, they love the touchdown celebrations, they are amazed at the astounding plays, or they enjoy the emotional commentaries – not me. In my younger days, I attempted to blend in more with the other people watching the game by mimicking their reactions even though I had absolutely no clue as to what was happening.
In light of my disclosures, it may be difficult to understand why I truly enjoy the Super Bowl. There are several reasons. My closest friend for 56 years, hosts a party every year and her guest list varies – sometimes I know the majority of the guests and other years I only know a few. Being as I am capable of holding a conversation in a paper bag, I always manage to talk to multiple guests throughout the game. This year my time was happily spent talking with two wonderful people I did not previously know.
I have enjoyed eating at buffets every since I was a child. Like a buffet, Super Bowl parties typically have a variety of food. To me, eating Fritos and Fettucine Alfredo at the same time is a good thing.
I guess I can call myself a Super Bowl fan, minus the football – it is all about perspective.
