RETIRED OR JUST TIRED?

I retired after 30 years of teaching at a private school. I wasn’t sure what I would do with all of my free time and actually signed up to substitute teach for a while so that I could transition from working 9 hours a day to not working at all. It didn’t take much time for me to realize that there were many things that would fill my days.

Since retiring, there are no longer post-its covering my desk for weeks at a time, reminding me of all the things I need to do. I am able to make my daughter’s life easier (she works over 55 hours a week) by doing some of her time consuming tasks. Last week, I tracked down one of the few remaining bottles of natural children’s vitamins (another supply chain casualty) and a missing mail order prescription. I now know the names of most of the CVS and USPS customer representatives after spending five hours on the phone. Connor, you were my favorite. I also know why they are called “agents”, since finding the order required the skill of the FBI.

The next time someone asks me what I have been doing during retirement, I may just tell them that I am now a personal shopper.

Will work for hugs.
