TIPPING POINT

For those of us who eat out often, how much to tip is often a dilemma. Tips usually reflect the level of service, whether you are at a regular sit-down restaurant, driving through, or you are picking up food. Sometimes, there are other factors that affect how much or how little you tip.

So many restaurants are short on staff lately, and food delays happen often through no fault of servers. With many of us feeling less anxious about eating inside of restaurants, we often stay longer at tables when meeting with friends whom we have not seen for extended periods of time. This results in less tips for servers due to slower customer turnovers.

Today I met a friend for lunch at a well-known local restaurant. Since we had not seen each other for many months, our conversation was lengthy. We agreed that a larger than normal tip was in order, even though there were no people waiting for a table.

Basically, we could have taken a plane trip to Vegas in less time. I guess we should have ordered dessert – or dinner.
