Most of us have complained at times about the postal service due to lost mail, long lines at post offices, or the amount of time it takes to receive mail.
On average, the postal service processes and delivers 23.8 million packages each day. On average, the postal service processes 4,877 pieces of mail each second. The Postal Service processes an average of 292,628 pieces of mail each minute. The statistics are impressive, but when mail or packages get lost, we are understandably still upset.
I purchased some products and allowed what seemed to be enough time to have them delivered before we left on a trip. The company I purchased from had some delays, and as a result, my order was scheduled to be delivered several hours after we were leaving.
Not exactly a life changing event, but being as it was over 100 degrees and my literal hot deal (220 dollars of eye crayons for 80 dollars) would be end up destroyed, I was not a happy camper. After explaining my concern, the USPS came to my rescue and put an immediate hold on our mail delivery service.
I actually enjoyed my conversation with the USPS person who assisted me. She shared some of her recent experiences with grouchy customers and I was glad that my story was amusing – I was just trying to prevent opening our mailbox and finding a pool of melted crayons.
And a special thank you to our mail carrier who gave me her cell number just in case I need help with any last minute requests in the future.
Needless to say, I will allow for extra delivery time when ordering items online during the summer heat or have them shipped to a friends who live in a cooler climate – like Alaska.
