When you are looking for a hands-on birthday gift for a friend who is an accomplished crafter, you need to think outside the box. Luckily, we found just the right venue – a fire glass studio.
Once we finished viewing the myriad of amazing glass creations displayed, the studio owner give us the choice of several basic projects. I decided to make a plate with two candleholders with the hope that my finished project would be attractive enough to be displayed somewhere in our home. My backup plan was that it could always live on a high shelf next to the pompom cat and assorted projects made by my grandson.
It took me many tries to cut the glass into reasonably straight pieces. I am pretty sure that in light of my large pile of broken glass, the studio’s profit margin that day was considerably lower than usual. The good news is that when all of the useable colorful glass pieces were fused with fire, something beautiful happened.
Guess you could say that I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen glass, and the result was pretty amazing.
