As we get older, our bodies change in ways that are often visually apparent. Our once smooth, glossy dark brown hair turns gray and takes on the qualities of a bird’s nest. Dark spots appear out of nowhere and concealer becomes an auto renew item on our Amazon accounts. So many changes occur – annoying but not impactful.
Unfortunately, the changes that happen inside our bodies often go undetected – even routine tests cannot always reveal some potential issues. Sometimes, although the ability to alter previous changes may not be possible, further damage can be prevented.
Some of us think that altering eating habits is nearly impossible and committing to walk every day is going to be too difficult. Some of us also think that McDonald’s filet of fish sandwich is healthy because it is fish. I will admit that instead of walking on my treadmill, I have actually used the handles as an alternative clothes dryer.
Studies have shown that walking for an average of 30 or more minutes a day can lower the risk of heart disease and stroke by 35% percent and Type 2 diabetes by 40%. Avoiding processed food has also been proven to be a healthy choice.
I have recently decided to say goodbye to some of my not-so-healthy favorite foods and say hello to spending thirty minutes a day walking around the neighborhood and determining which lawns are real and which ones are artificial.
Kind of like the fish sandwich.
