At a recent medical appointment, our cardiologist issued a strong warning regarding the outcome of my husband’s food choices. In support of his new eating habits, I recently purchased a whole wheat pancake mix. Apparently, I was so busy reading the ingredient list that I did not see the words “chocolate chips” on the front of the box and spent twenty minutes picking out every single microscopic chip.
I am an eclectic eater – which is basically a nice way of saying that I will eat almost any kind of food – most of which are not particularly healthy. Sometimes my plate looks like the United Nations of food, i.e., a potato knish and chili – which by the way was my dinner tonight. That is why I love buffets, not for the volume, but for the wide variety of choices.
One of the suggestions our doctor made was that when questioning the value of a food choice, stick with something that you can find growing on a plant or tree.
In light of his comment, I am currently searching for a french fry tree.
