Last night we attended a beautiful wedding. The venue was enchanting, and the bride and groom’s love for each other was pure and magical. My favorite part of a wedding is always the exchanging of vows. The vows that were shared last night reflected the importance of being a good partner.
The defining characteristics of being in a successful partnership are valuing and respecting the other person, and the ability to be a part of a team. It is about two people listening to each other and working together to accomplish common goals.
Based on that definition, it is not surprising that some of us who married too young were not able to sustain our relationships. Personally, I thought marriage was supposed to be like a romantic Disney fairytale, and mutual respect and being valued never crossed my mind.
Last night, we celebrated two individuals who have a clear understanding of what marriage is truly about.
They are partners for life.
