For the longest time I had no clue as to what ETA meant. I use the navigation system in my car on a regular basis, which means that I turn it on almost every time I back out of the driveway. It is not that I have a bad sense of direction – it is that I have no sense of direction.
ETA, or estimated time of arrival, supposedly gives you a fairly accurate prediction of the time you will reach your destination. Basically, you start your trip with a positive attitude that you will arrive at a specified time. The reality is that if you are lucky and there is no traffic, accidents, or unforeseen events, you may arrive on time. For those of us who are Type A personalities, we may feel our blood pressure increase in proportion to the minutes increasing on our navigation screen. By the time you reach your destination, you have the same amount of adrenaline as a Formula 500 driver.
ETA = Eventual Turmoil Ahead.
