THE REAL DODGER DOGS

Contrary to the title, this post is not about eating hot dogs at Dodger Stadium. Personally, I am not a fan of hot dogs, but when mustard and relish are added, I am happy to participate in this long-standing tradition.

Last week we attended a Dodger game. In order to secure a good parking spot, we decided to arrive earlier than usual. After locating our seats and watching the field being raked and watered, we noticed that dogs were walking around the perimeter of the field. Within minutes several hundred dogs and their owners were following each other around the entire field. Many of the dogs were wearing Dodger baseball caps and bandanas, while others were dressed in elaborate costumes. It looked like a real-life version of a Dr. Seuss book – dogs that were big, dogs that were small, dogs that were short, dogs that were tall. And yes, there was an employee who had the unenviable job of being a pooper scooper. I am guessing that he probably ended up resigning once the last four-legged creature left the field.

We later learned that in order to enter the stadium, each dog was required to have a paid seat. A full-sized Labradoodle watching a baseball game for over three hours is amazing to me.

Must have been the hot dogs and peanuts.
