STAYING IN THE MOMENT

I love phrases that encourage people to stay in the moment. Personally, I have a hard time living in the present – but I try. Here are a few of my favorite quotes.

Stay present. You’ll always have time to worry later on if you want to.

Today I will live in the moment – unless that moment becomes unpleasant, in which case I will take a nap or eat a cookie, or both.

I admire people who can truly live in the present. They have an innate ability to allow themselves to enjoy each moment without stressing over what may happen next. So far in over 70 years I have not managed to accomplish this.

The following is a sample of what happens when I try to stay in the moment.

Me: Today let’s try to stay focused on the present.

Overthinking Me: Ok – I will try. How long do we have to do this?

Me: let’s start with two hours.

Overthinking Me: That sounds like a long time – how about one hour?

Me: Ok. Let’s go outside and and admire the beautiful plants and the adorable hummingbirds.

Overthinking Me: We should change their food soon – the water looks a little murky due to the heat. It is going to get warmer next week – we need to add another day to the sprinkler control ASAP or the grass might start to die.

Me: There’s a baby hummer – isn’t it cute?

Overthinking Me: Very cute little bird. That reminds me that we need to clean the bird poop off of the car before it ruins the paint. How long have we been out here?

Me: Five minutes.

So much for staying in the moment.
