LET THEM

I recently found a book titled LET THEM by Mel Robbins, which as it turns out has been highly praised by several people I know. The premise of the book is that we let other people affect the way we act, think, and feel too much of the time. As a result, we are unhappy and feel out of control which is the exact opposite of what we want. Those of us who are trying to control our world and the individuals in it, are often disappointed at the outcome.

If they gave awards for the most attempts to control life in one day, I would probably win a silver or bronze medal – some days the gold might be achievable. It is not that being a control freak is an envious goal – it is just a lifetime pattern of responsibility carried too far – kind of like watching your dog run in circles around you at 40 miles an hour in an attempt to stop you from walking. Just exchange the dog with a human and you get the picture. Just like the dog, you don’t accomplish anything and you end up needing a long nap.

I am slowly learning that the only way for me to stop this exhausting pattern is to finish reading the book and…

LET THEM.
