Last week we met two family members at a nearby hotel/casino. Our intent was to enjoy a few relaxing days playing card games and slot machines. Please note that we started this getaway with four relatively healthy seniors.
The trip started out with Senior Number One unable to find his phone. Thus began an intense search and rescue mission during which we took turns calling the missing phone without any success. Luckily, it was finally found in a bag which was located in the trunk of his car.
Our first day was uneventful and calm. In the middle of the night I woke up with a case of acid reflux, courtesy of a late night cheese danish. Definitely not one of my better decisions.
I stayed in the hotel room the next morning and ended up feeling perfectly fine after a lengthy nap. The good news is that my odds of losing much money during that time were zero. Senior Number Three started limping severely in the early afternoon, most likely due to lifting heavy luggage while loading the car. As dinner approached, Senior Number One developed a fever and was clearly sick. Senior Number Four unfortunately had a history of balance issues which made walking difficult even on a good day. The collective decision was made to skip the concert in light of our less than stellar day.
It was like a senior version of four-of-a-kind in poker.
