If you are reading this, it means that you have found your way to my new blog. Just to clarify, there is no “old” blog- this is my first attempt to try something that I have considered for quite some time but never had the courage to start. I named my blog “Living Life” because whenever major life changes occurred in my family, my mother started a conversation with “You have to live your life.” She shared so much valuable advice throughout her lifetime. The one glaring exception was her consistent belief that regardless of where you were were while driving, you had to go north to get home. To this day, I try to keep a full tank of gas just in case my GPS decides to channel my mother.
It has taken me many years to finally accept the fact that I cannot control all of the things that happen in my life- not that I haven’t spent an inordinate amount of time trying. Like many of you, I have experienced some big changes, particularly in the past five years. Much to my chagrin, many of these events were never on my To Do lists. I had a Post-It mentality- if it wasn’t on one of the brightly colored squares, it wasn’t going to happen. How I survived with this belief system is a mystery to me. I guess denial is a beautiful thing. As my closest friend once remarked, “I never would have guessed that you of all people could have had so many changes in your life.” I actually downloaded a list of the top ten most stressful life events. Being in jail was one of the few categories I didn’t check off- probably because I am not good at sharing small spaces with other people and I dislike the color orange.
I do not have a plan for the topics I will write about in the future, but please note that there will be no sales pitches, healthy recipes (unless they include chocolate as the main ingredient), or lists of the top 100 hobbies for middle-aged women. My topics will be simple-everything will be written from the perspective of this 69 year old woman just living life.
I hope you enjoyed my first blog. In the future, I will most likely write about everything from eyeshadow to puppies. Pseudonyms will be used with the exception of my dog who believes her name is Poopy for obvious reasons.
