WRINKLE REMOVER

I know what you are thinking when you read the title of this post – she is going to give us the name of some “miracle” product or procedure for removing wrinkles from our faces. I hope you are not too disappointed, but this post is actually about ironing. Yes, ironing – the task of removing wrinkles from clothing with an iron. Kind of like a flat iron, but for clothes. Many of you may actually have an iron in your home, but after doing some research I have discovered that very few women actually use it.

I grew up with a mom who ironed clothes once a week. She kept items requiring ironing in a plastic bag in our refrigerator because they supposedly could be ironed more efficiently that way. As a teenager, some of my friends with long hair, (think Cher), kept their hair straight and smooth by using an iron on an actual ironing board. Occasionally, someone would get a little carried away, and the result was a layered look that smelled like burnt toast.

I purchase 100% cotton clothing whenever possible, and ironing these items is often necessary. For me, there is a certain feeling of control as I watch the wrinkles disappear. If only life could be that simple. The bonus of ironing is that you get a mini facial when the steam from the iron rises and hits your face.

It just occurred to me that ironing may have been the reason why my mother had such smooth, wrinkle-free skin her entire life. So – I am now thinking about changing the first line of this post. Maybe ironing clothes really is a miracle procedure. Starting tomorrow, I am going to iron refrigerated clothes more often – it couldn’t hurt.
