Most the time, I really enjoy using the Internet, AKA the World Wide Web. It serves so many useful purposes, like writing this blog.
However, like most people, I am annoyed and distracted by the countless unwanted ads that continually decorate my computer screen. Once in a while, an interesting ad comes across the screen, but it is a rare occurrence.
We have all experienced the fact that researching products will result in countless unwanted ads. Looking for a new microwave? Ads from every single microwave manufacturer in the world will populate your computer screen every time you turn it on for the next week. The problem takes a different turn if the product you are researching is personal- you could end up with enough ads to cause major embarrassment if anyone gazes at your screen. (Please do not ask me how I know this.)
For me, the biggest problem I have regarding my computer is remembering passwords. It would take a Mensa scholar to recall all of them. Due to the possibility of cyber theft, we are continually encouraged to use a different password for every site. As a result, I keep a folder in my desk drawer with an alphabetized list of 300 sites and their passwords. Yes- I counted them, and there really are 300.
There are many times when I do not have access to my password folder and think that I can remember a password. After multiple tries, and almost getting locked out, I hit the Forgot Your Password button, and recreate a new password that contains at least 8 letters and a special character and is not one of the last 5 passwords that I have previously used. The end result is that I will be able to enter the website, but since I cannot write my new password in my folder, it is guaranteed that I will forget what it is the next time I visit the site.
It looks like I am destined to get caught in the World Wide Web.
