Just as the number of candles on our birthday cakes increases every year, we also tend to increase the number of specialty doctors listed on our phones. When you add a new doctor, do you create these new contacts with their names, or their specialties? The catch is if you decide to use their specialty as the contact, and then decide to change doctors, you could call the wrong doctor. I have not had that happen yet, but I have called the wrong plumber a few times.

The good news is that even as we increase the number of doctors we see, many visits do not involve significant medical issues. My guess is that most of you schedule an annual visit to your dermatologist. Somehow I missed this memo – for 25 years to be exact. Being as I have been observing a little bump on my shoulder for quite some time, I finally made an appointment with a dermatologist. She decided that the best course of action was to perform some minor surgery, insert a few stitches, and to also do a ”body check”. Since I have acquired multiple “Dalmatian” spots on my hand (my term, not the doctor’s), it was suggested that I have an easy procedure to eliminate them. As a result of both procedures, I have used almost every bandaid in our house.

Luckily, my shoulder bump was innocuous, and I am currently free of any suspicious marks. I realize that I might not get that lucky in the future, so I will be scheduling a visit with my new dermatologist once a year. I have a feeling that by next year a convention of new “Dalmation” spots will take up residence on my hands. But this time, I will be ready with a Costco-size box of bandaids.
