A GUY NAMED JIMMY

My husband and I enjoy eating at a small, comfortable restaurant near our home. The menu is not extensive, but the food is always good and the service is wonderful. A few months ago, the management added live music and we decided to request the songs “Fire and Rain”, and “Brown-Eyed Girl.” Somehow we ended up talking to Jimmy (the musician) between sets and found him to be a very interesting and friendly guy. During our conversation, we discussed the types of music we enjoyed and his experiences playing with famous musicians. He was happy to accommodate our requests whenever we saw him, and thus began our friendship with Jimmy.

In the weeks that followed, we visited the restaurant on the nights Jimmy was scheduled to play. As soon as he spotted us walking in, Jimmy would play “Fire and Rain.” As time went on, he expanded his set to include some Elvis songs, as well as some other artists. He always sat at our table during his breaks and we truly enjoyed his company.

For the next few months, the restaurant will be featuring some bands on their outside patio, so we will not see Jimmy until the end of summer. This “brown-eyed girl” will miss listening to his music and stories, but it will give me time to formulate a new playlist of requests for the next time we see him.
