Last week my daughter and I were talking about her upcoming work event. In our conversation it quickly became apparent that she was in need of a new dress. I own many dresses which she could have borrowed – if only they were about three sizes smaller.
We have been shopping buddies since she was an infant. At six weeks old, I took her on her first outing to a nearby mall. My parents began taking her shopping when she was a toddler, which began an eclectic collection of dolls which included several Cabbage Patch dolls, 15 Barbie dolls, one Ken doll and a GI Joe doll.
When my daughter reached the preteen years, her other grandmother took her shopping each year for back to school clothes at a popular teenage store. They would always return with several very large bags of clothing. Her grandmother’s comment each time was that because my daughter choose items from the sale rack in order to stay within the given budget, she rewarded her by spending twice as much money on her.
Fast forward to a few days ago when we spent several hours dress shopping together via our computers. The endless texting of dress photos resulted in the ordering of four dresses, each one in two sizes.
So far none of the dresses appear to be “keepers.” Thus begins round two of buddy shopping – this time the focus will be blouses that are not fancy, not casual, not expensive, and not easy to find.
As a result, I am issuing a public apology in advance to anyone who finds themselves standing behind me at our local UPS next week.
