QUOTES TO LIVE BY

When I was a teenager I kept a collection of quotes on a small brightly colored bulletin board in my bedroom. I gravitated towards quotes which were witty and sometimes just plain sarcastic – definitely fitting for a sixteen-year-old. As the years and life became more complicated, I found myself seeking quotes which were inspirational and helpful during stressful times.

In my forties, my new hobby became baking biscotti . I collected many recipes and experimented with countless variations of this delicious treat. I developed a simple, but attractive way to package these cookies and attached a short quote which fit the recipient. It is amazing how many quotes you can find about nurses, manicurists, and teachers.

Whenever I wanted to give someone a little gift, I started baking, and the search for an appropriate attachment began. Colleagues found small white bags with a humorous quote about teaching sitting on their desks before exhausting events, like parent conferences. Being as I already had a full-time career, there wasn’t much time to devote to baking, but it was fun while it lasted.

Now that I am retired, it may be a good time to restart the concept of biscotti and quotes because “everything old is new again.”
