This post is not about finding a person to date – it is literally about four women trying to find a date to meet for lunch. It seems like this should be an easy task, but so far it has been an unexpected challenge, especially when you consider that all of us are retired. To clarify how difficult it can be to arrange a simple luncheon, I am sharing our most recent text conversation.
Friend 1 : Let’s schedule our next lunch.
Friend 2 : I’m available June 22, 23, and 26.
Friend 3: We may be visiting our kids the week of the 19th. The week of the 26 is free for me.
Friend 1: Any chance for June 27 or 28?
Friend 3 : Both are good for me.
Friend 2 : I can do the 28th.
Friend 1 : Great, let’s see if Friend 4 can do the 28th.
Friend 4 : I am having construction done on my condo that week.
Friend 2 : Are you doing the work?
Friend 1 : Of course she is.
Friend 3: I am doing the plastering for her. Maybe even the painting.
Friend 4: I can do July 5 or 7.
Friend 2: I can do the 7th.
Friend 1 : I am having company on July 7th. What about this Friday?
Friend 3: I have my book club this Friday.
Friend 1: I can’t deal with this anymore. Going to the movies.
This was a verbatim text conversation – only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.
