My husband and I started to plan a karaoke party at our house just before the pandemic, but of course it took years to actually occur. According to the people whose off-key voices and hysterical antics graced our home, it was worth the wait.
Several of our guests came for the pizza, lasagne, and dessert – they had absolutely no intention of singing anything, with anybody, at any time. Their resolve disappeared quickly as they watched their enthusiastic friends belting out songs from the 60’s and 70’s. It was a good thing that we did not do it outside as we had originally planned. I have no doubt that our neighbors would have interpreted our “singing” as people yelling in pain and the local authorities would have been called.
As we all took turns clutching the microphone (as if that might make our singing better), the senior paparazzi recorded the performances on their cell phones, which may give rise to some serious blackmailing in the future.
And yes, there was wine available, but much to my surprise, most people barely drank because they spent so much of their time finding which songs they wanted to sing.
I guess you could say that we had the time of our lives.
