PASSWORD MANIA

A few days ago I received a message on my phone that some of my passwords (twenty-eight to be exact) may have been involved in a security exposure. In light of this possibility, it seemed like a good idea to create new passwords for these sites. I armed myself with a large cup of coffee and a positive attitude, which means that I was positive that this job was going to take several hours.

I quickly realized that the easiest way to create new passwords was to enter my user name on each site and push the “I forgot my password button”. In each case, a screen popped up asking whether I wanted to create a new password myself or have the website create one. The examples of their passwords involved about ten random letters, numbers, and special characters. If someone cannot remember a password they created, I can’t help but wonder how are they ever going to remember ik4?Np#df2.

In a previous post, I revealed that I keep a brightly colored file folder which contains an Excel spreadsheet with all of my passwords. Once all of the suspect passwords were updated, I had to then record them in this folder.

I am seriously thinking about changing the color of the folder to black, which currently reflects my attitude toward passwords.
