I just lost my coveted position as a person who has remained COVID-free for the past four years. If you find some grammatical errors or syntax that resembles a fourth-grader’s writing skills in this post, please accept these issues as a result of brain fog. I am not sure if that is a real thing, but I am going with it for now.
My first reaction to seeing the bright red line on the cute little Binax kit was disbelief. I had remained healthy after attending so many events, without even a cold. After four years of dodging this disease, it finally got me – so much for being a medical Wonder Woman. Luckily, I was able to get a prescription for Paxlovid quickly, in hopes of short-circuiting the multitude of side effects reported on the internet and television.
Here is what I have learned from my experience with COVID so far:
- Every time a symptom disappears, a new one takes its place.
- By the time you hit day six, you are no longer singing the song “Tomorrow” from Annie.
- If you are still singing it in your head, you have now added many four-letter words to the chorus.
- You vow to avoid large groups of people without wearing a hazmat suit.
- Your dog who usually races you up the stairs is now following you because it is not rewarding to outrun someone who is moving at a snail’s pace.
As my dad used to say, another day in paradise.
