I have read many posts on Facebook about random acts of kindness. Our world provides numerous opportunities to show compassion to others on a daily basis and last night one of those opportunities presented itself.
My husband and I were finishing our meal at a local restaurant when he noticed a man walk in. I was actually on my phone and I was not facing the front of the restaurant, but the look on my husband’s face made me quickly end my conversation. I turned to see a gaunt man who appeared disheveled and barely able to walk, even with the use of one crutch. Apparently, my husband had been watching him struggle to walk across the parking lot for ten minutes to the restaurant entrance and was visibly moved by the condition of the man.
I quickly jumped up and told the manager that we wanted to pay for the man’s meal. As we exited the restaurant a few minutes later, I approached the stranger’s table and told him to enjoy his dinner and that he did not have to pay for it. He looked into my eyes with disbelief and thanked me.
I learned an important lesson last night. Being aware of people around us is not just a safety issue.
It is about random acts of kindness.
